Sweet Thunder Products has partcipated in multiple events including the Hilo Hui, weddings, and catering. November of 2011, Dawn held her first catering event at a family friend's wedding. She drove down with her team and was able to serve everyone who attended. In 2012, they participated in Hilo's 8th Annual Hilo Hui held at Moku Ola. The next year they were invited again, giving the community a taste of her local flavors. They have also participated in the Taste of Hilo at Sangha Hall. Dawn enjoys giving back to others, helping out in events for the veteran's, Easter Seals, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). This led to her creating "challenges" for her customers to try, where half of the entry fee is donated to the organization of the month. In May 2013, she was interviewed for a Hawaii Community College Digital Media student about her contributions to the community. This year, they continue to participate in the Taste of Hilo and the upcoming Hilo Hui.
With suggestions from customers she created challenges most popular which this challenge consists a 2 pounds rice 1 pound of spicy ahi poke along chirashi four wasabi oil, homemade hawaiian pepper (with ghost chili peppers), srirachi, and her secret sauce, the object is to eat all the food and sauces within 30 minutes with absolutely no drinks, shoyu may be used if desired, but no water or other drinks are allowed. Many have attempted the challenge, but only 4 have won. Keoni was the first to win the challenge and so it became known as the "Keoni Spicy Ahi Chirashi Challenge." Keoni later returned upon hearing his time had been beat, and completed the challenge again with the now-fastest time. Customers are encouraged to take the challenge, or challenge a friend while also helping out local charities. Videos to be posted soon.
